Topic:  Derecho: Creating Resiliency from Adversity

The 2020 Derecho in Eastern Iowa was most definitely a learning experience. Zoom in to hear from local leaders how Linn County and Cedar Rapids have evaluated our response to improve our community's resiliency.

Speakers  

Steve O'Konek, Linn County Emergency Management Coordinator. He started with CRPD in 1985, and was a Patrol Division Commander during the 2008 flood. Steve has served on the All-Hazards Incident Management Team (IMT) since 2009.

Greg Smith, Cedar Rapids Fire Chief since 2019, and a firefighter with CRFD since July 1994. Chief Smith is a member of the Iowa All-Hazards Incident Management Team and serves as an Incident Commander for large-scale events and disasters.
