Linn County League

Members are encouraged to become active and volunteer with the opportunities our committees support. Members can help their league in many other ways by; volunteering, writing letters to elected officials, writing non-partisan blogs, taking pictures, and being an event volunteer. Whatever your passion or talent, let us know. There is a way to share it as part of the league.

Look below for opportunities.

  • Voter Services

The voter services work is often the first thing people think of when they hear mention of the League of Women Voters. The basic principle of voter services is nonpartisanship - providing unbiased, factual information to help citizens make their own informed decisions on Election Day. We host voter registration events in neighborhoods year-round and at naturalization ceremonies.

  • Legislator/Candidate Forums

Our elected leaders make decisions that affect you - your job, health care, energy costs, security, and more. The League helps citizens get to know the candidates and the issues. When the Legislature is in session, the League of Linn County hosts monthly educational programs allowing citizens the opportunity to learn more and to ask questions of interest.

  • Member Programs

Our member meetings take place throughout the month. League members and the public are welcome to attend our Saturday programs and special events. Topics are planned by our member committees and have ranged from touring the wind turbine at Kirkwood, to presentations by elected officials, college professors, and local social service agencies. At monthly meetings members have the opportunity to meet, build relationships, gain knowledge, and new ideas.

  • State of the City/County Luncheons:

As each new year begins, elected officials are required to provide an assessment of the condition of their city (Cedar Rapids, Marion) and of Linn County. In 2024 the LWVLC will help promote on our website the events.
